I am interested in applying for a position in the social services sector. Ideally working with children or adults with special needs. I am interested in working as an employment counsellor particularly for those with special needs. I am also interested in working with new immigrants, ESL teaching, or doing something in literacy development.
I have over 12 years experience working with people with a variety of special needs. In addition, I have considerable education, including a diploma in Developmental Service Work, a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Studies, and a teaching degree. I have taken additional qualification courses in special education literacy and ESL, and have experience as a special education teacher, and teaching ESL.
I am interested in becoming
an employment counselor in order to help individuals who wish to work, discover
independence, and their true potential. My range of employment shows my flexibility and ability to adapt, which will be a tremendous

I would describe myself as an independent self-starter. For example, while teaching internationally in Kuwait I began a program within the school to support those struggling with English as a Second Language, and literacy skills, while I was holding the new position of ESL Support Coordinator within the school. I implemented a system to assess and track students and developed a referral system for students requiring additional assistance in all grades. I also shared my skills in special education and literacy development with other teachers at meetings, in the form of professional development.
In each position, I have shown myself to be a flexible problem-solver who works well both individually and on a team. In the group-home where I worked, I am on a specialized team to support a particular client with complex needs. I often was the only one who is available and trained to support her, so in this way I often work very independently. I also performed duties in the team environment and as a leader when I am designated as the “staff in-charge”.
